For almost 200 years, Masons has been at the heart the Lincolnshire Wolds serving the residents of Louth and the surrounding farming community in the countryside and coastal landscape that we have called home since 1850.

Our business has always been rooted in exceptional customer service and supporting our clients' changing needs for land use and property which has seen us grow from a small surveying company to an LLP of Masons Louth, Masons Rural and Louth Livestock Market.

Here’s a snapshot of our journey to date:

In a bit more detail:

  • 1850s: Founded by William Ludlum Mason in Louth, establishing the firm's long-standing roots.
  • Mid-20th Century: Saw growth and expansion, with new partners joining, leading to the firm becoming Mason Fuller Chatterton & Haxby.
  • 1970s-1980s: David Williams joined the firm having been ‘articled’ from North Wales in 1967, becoming a partner in 1970. The first time the firm shortened its name to Masons, eventually merging with other local land agents to form Mawer, Mason & Bell, a large estate agency with thirteen partners and seven offices.
  • 1998: Sale of the firm to The Leeds Permanent Building Society, later becoming part of Halifax Property Services.
  • 1996: David and his wife Patricia Williams regained the Louth office, establishing separate businesses: Masons Chartered Surveyors for Agricultural work and Louth Livestock Market with Patricia Williams launching the lettings and management side.
  • Early 2000s: Simon Williams joined the firm and became partner in 2003, with Russell Jeanes, joining a year later.
  • Mid 2000s: The estate agency side of Masons launched with equestrian property. Patricia Williams' lettings and management business integrated into Masons in 2007.
  • 2017-2018: Masons played a significant role in preserving Louth Livestock Market, including a visit from then Prince Charles. Now the county’s only livestock auction.
  • 2021: Restructuring took place bringing the businesses together as Masons & Partners LLP.
  • 2022: Marked David Williams' 50th year as an AMC agent, the longest serving in the country.
  • 2024: Lucy Turner became a director, the first woman in Mason Rural’s history.
  • 2025: To celebrate our 175th anniversary we are undertaking a range of hiking activities from a walk in the Wolds in May to the Yorkshire Three Peaks in July. Many of Masons staff will be taking part in the their own walking events too and we hope to raise in excess of £5000 in our birthday year for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
  • We will also be exhibiting at Cereals at Leadenham on 11th and 12th June when and inviting valued clients to join us in celebration of our anniversary.

Still based in the heart of Louth, with a team of approximately thirty full time equivalent staff, our long history is testament to the enduring value of personal connection and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that define rural life.

All the Masons Teams are proud to continue serving our local community with the same dedication to service and client success that has been our hallmark for nearly two centuries.
